Plea deals are a necessary evil. The system has so many criminals it can't handle them all. If every drunk driver, bar fighter, or even rapist, got a trial, we would run out of attorneys, judges, and jurors in a week.
Also most people don't want a trial as weird as that sounds. Most people admit they are guilty when caught and guilt or innocence isn't really in question in most crimes. They just want to get the punishment and process over with.
