The Scorch Shot is fine, and I say that as someone who uses Dragon's Fury/Flare Gun instead. I've never been annoyed by it no matter what class I'm playing, if he hits it he earned it, if I get hit by the explosion you just go to one of the 15 ways to remove afterburn.
