1. When it removed the ability for priests to get married it ran into this:
>Men who will give it all up for God are rare and most of those became monks who served in private monasteries usually (far away from temptations)
>Men who are gay or degenerate and want to fall upon the church to save them from themselves

This has spiraled out overtime, kind of like Eunuchs vs the Emperor. Gay/Degenerate priests have sex with each other and have engaged in compromising activities together, like elites in other places. They also protect each other when found out. Long term this weakens and softens the church to making it more feminine and insincere (like a gay man or a pedophile.)
Conversely: Orthodox Christianity allows married men to become priests, however it's a one and done thing and if he gets divorced or wife dies he's celibate.
This means the majority of Orthodox priests are husbands with wives, giant families. Men you'd want making decisions for the future / working with the public and children.
