You say no rogue state did it, that's the all deal with Iran (and Israel by the way, they did heavy lobbying on us so we share with them the gas centrifuge tech). In my job, you usually come up with a plan, then you try to implement it then it turns out something doesn't work so you need to figure out how to make it work etc. I imagine something like that is true for nukes, while theory makes sense, in practice it didn't work out.

Wrong. There is an explosion, or would need to define "explode" then.

The atoms themselves, explode, when they undergo fission. So while the container for the reaction doesn't explode, on the atomic level, the atoms explode in both a nuclear bomb and in a nuclear reactor.
A single U-235 atom undergoing fission is enough to move a grain of sand.
Considering the size of an atom, VS a grain of sand, that's a huge explosion proportionally, even though it's small in absolute terms.
