Better example is Tear Ring Saga. They tried to do the same thing after the FE creator left and made a game with a different studio for the PS1. Nintendo's case was a lot stronger there since it was clearly "Not Fire Emblem". The only win they got was false advertising but thats because the creator was a tard and said it was a sequel to Fire Emblem. Went all the way to the Supreme Court and Nintendo still couldn't get rid of it.

I know this is an AI shitpost but Nintendo will be better off with Miyamoto. He suffers from the same issue other Japanese boomers do where they are stuck in there ways and can't accept that it's not the 1980s anymore. Even something small like story, which was ancillary in Miyamoto's day, is absolutely expected now, including world building. Look how much people obsess about Lore in Souls games, or fuck, how much Nintendo's fans obsessed about the Zelda Timeline before they fucked it up.

I think if the options were
>Bring back the guy who made Smash but pay him a % of sales
or
>Use an existing team that you already pay but maybe it would be a bit harder for them
You'd go with the latter (especially current management which seems to have gotten greedy). As for who would do it, most likely it would be from the Mario Kart team since they have experience with using other IPs (see Mario Kart in general but also specifically 8's DLC), work on multiplayer/online games and did make a fighting game with ARMS. There is already some evidence they might be making it as right after the MK8 Booster Pass came out, Bamco's Studio 2/S (who also worked on the Booster Pass) put out job hiring for a game that sounds a lot like Smash. It was also when Smash Ultimate got those new spirit events.
Also, this relationship was always at risk with Iwata's passing. They were very close and Iwata was the one that made sure Sakurai stayed on Smash (and likely negotiated that deal). Even if Kimishima stayed as president (the good timeline) then they would have likely revisited it in some way to make sure they took it over. Its hard to have an IP that makes at least 10 million in sales be headed by a man for hire. Even Sakurai said the arrangement was unusual, so there is no reason to think it would have kept working out without Iwata. Also I ran out of Sakurai images
