Unless you're feeling adventurous, start with an officially translated game. That'll limit you to FE7 and later. Many fans will recommend you do in fact start with FE7 or FE8 because they're easy, accessible, and fairly polished. But frankly, it does not matter as much as people let on.
The important thing is to pick one you like and that you are physically capable of playing somehow (either through emulation or buy on console). Realistically if you want to buyfag, you're limiting yourself to current gen games (Three Houses, Engage), because it is simply retarded to buy old FE games.
tl;dr: pick a GBA, 3DS, or Switch game that looks cool

Ests are a meme. The reality is, IS has always put in weak, shitty, underleveled units and there's no deeper meaning to it than that. Players feel this is wrong as all units should have a "point" - some kind of reward for the effort - but IS has its own agenda. Sophia is a weak little girl, so this is reflected in the gameplay.
