I think Plato is absolutely right in the sense that existence is rooted in the truth of ideas. We instinctively (and independently) have the capacity to think of ideals, we construct them for ourselves, and the physical environment and the contents of the cave (shadows and particulars) really don't matter all that much, at least in the sense of how "true" they are. The truest world is the human mind.
