I mean he kinda died haha in Sonic 2 when his death station blew up and Sonic was the only suvivor, it's kinda like in Megaman 3 when in Megaman 4 everyone thought Dr. Willy was ded but then it turned out he survived, in Sonic 3 start Sonic & Tails think Dr. Egg Man was kil but actually he rise again from hell that's why his first boss-machine was an inferno.
