And the "milsurp" plates supplement to the /bag/ guide. I decided to put the USMC LITE plate in the used plates infographic from last thread, since it's somewhat niche and people don't have its capabilities squared down yet like SAPI / ESAPI / XSAPI, and even the rarer SAPI family members like ECSAPI and ISAPI.

The B-VEL and BZ API versions are discussed in pic related. B-VEL to my understanding is a ceramic-composite replacement for the titanium PULV and the older steel PSTES.
Accordingly, B-VEL is thicker, lighter, and picks up M80, M193, M855 protection. All in all, upgrade unless 0.1" added thickness is a killer.
The BZ API version adds... BZ API (lol) and to the best of my knowledge is only used by the Secret Service. Considering the circumstances I would not be surprised if it also picks up M855A1, but that's not guaranteed. The two threats are sidegrades My guess is that it's a B4C+PE layup like the 28791 or the USMC "LITE" plate. I've only seen a picture of the BZ API plate once, it was for sale on ebay for $6k or so for the set.
The Ultralight all-PE is extremely new. Think Hesco 3801LV but made by a more competent manufacturer (Tencate - which is the only Big Six to have never had an NIJ suspension or product recall - or BAE are the likely suspects) and in the PULV cut. My understanding is that it's under 2.5lb. If made in a traditional cut, and perhaps if it lost M80 protection and was only rated for MSC / M193, that might be the 1lb poly plates rumored last thread. Food for thought.

The reason why I advised the S.P.E.C.S aren't up for the job is that they don't cover 100% of your eyesight. If the laser hits your cheekbones or your eyebrows then you risk direct exposure. Many of the eBay lasers are Class 4 - 500mW and above. They will fry eyes even indirectly.
This means you want something enclosed - goggles, and rated for at minimum Class 3B and better yet Class 4. The applicable standard is optical density - higher the better. Gun for something at least OD6-OD7 against anticipated wavelengths. Red, Green, Blue, Magenta, and now Gold. I'll add an eyepro infographic to the list after I'm done updating the IFAK guide and the thermal scopes infographic.
