It's been like that for years now in Microsoft.
Layoffs and hiring freezes were in place over here since the Covid boom ended.

As for AI, it's true, that is part of the reason today.
Pretty much all MS management are politicians, not engineers. AI is what they're selling today, so they have to race each other to show how on board they are. They must drink their own Koolaid, or they will end up on the chopping block.
AI cannot write complex software at the moment, but they must pretend it does and they must pretend to show they're replacing their workforce with AI.

It is possible that what we commonly refer to as the 'Stone Age,' 'Bronze Age,' and 'Medieval Age' might actually represent post-apocalyptic periods rather than the beginnings of human civilization as we imagine. These eras could have unfolded over much shorter timeframes than traditionally believed. Our ancestors, seemingly appearing out of nowhere, may have inherited a wealth of technologies left behind in these massive, abandoned structures. These buildings, far too advanced for the presumed capabilities of early humanity, hint at a forgotten past one where a prior, highly developed civilization may have thrived before its sudden collapse. The remnants of that lost era became the foundation upon which our ancestors built their own existence, adopting and repurposing what they could from the ruins of a world they never truly understood.

The mainstream account suggests that ancient builders transported millions of tons of marble using only wooden carts, ropes, and draft animals like donkeys. With no advanced machinery, they were said to have shaped and assembled these massive stones using nothing more than chisels, hammers, and sheer manpower. The precision, scale, and complexity of the structures raise serious doubts about this explanation, leading many to question whether such feats were truly possible with the limited tools and technology of the time.
