Giving the player a reason to go back to certain areas or do certain quests, due to a specific npc, would help in making the world worth existing. In every zelda you usually go to an area once and get your items and intend to never come back unless there is a dungeon that unlocks from there later. If you could have some hidden relationship score it would actually be worthwhile to do sidequests and go to specific places
