I thought the story was top tier, but any optional dungeon crawling ranged from kind of meh to feeling like a chore.
I'd skip most of the optional ones on a replay, but several character quests and social links are directly tied to scouring through them.

Probably Expedition 33 in terms of mechanics alone, but I preferred Metaphor Refantazio in terms of story. I've been burnt out on the modern Persona formula, so I was surprised that some good character writing, a strong main villain, and emphasis on travel in a new fantasy setting were all enough to revitalize it for me.
