This one I'd be ok with if it was not "hey this is literally the ship from Alien! so pretend this is the Space Jockey!" and more "hey, this is what the aliens used to look like, but they went crazy modifying themselves more and more, fusing themselves with organic technology, until they made some that were completely fused with their ships and could never leave" which would also explain why the ending engineer looks so different from the beginning engineer
