out of curiosity, where did you get your info that SKG demands devs to give out source code or binaries etc.? Would be cool to know where people keep getting misinformation like this.
SKG wants games to be playable despite developer support going away.
For example Gran Turismo 7. I like to use this example as it's always-online requirement is so pointless for Career Mode which is 100% singleplayer. SKG requires that games like Gran Turismo 7 could be played without the internet connection to dev servers that they in the end stops support for.
With MMOs, I can understand it be bit stranger, but the idea is that you can launch your game without requirement of dev support.
BUT THE BIG IDEA is that the developers/publishers have "End of Life" plan for their game from the moment they release said game. As in they have a patch or such that they can push out before dropping the support completely, in a way that the game works without server connection.
MMOs like WoW have had private servers since forever for example, so it isn't like it's impossible task.

I think people overestimate how hard it is to make a patch like that, especially as many games can be already run offline mode by the devs themselves.
