I played Mario 64 for the first time recently and I genuinely don't get all the hate it gets for being "dated" outside of the camera (which is fixed in the pc port). Why does everyone say it's the worst controlling 3D Mario? Galaxy and 3D World control much worse IMO.

At the time, was Super Mario 64 thought of as a worthy follow-up to Super Mario World and the other Mario SNES games? Any longtime Mario fans here that either were or weren't satisfied when they played it?
