low self esteem and hanging fruit. People think cartoons from japan are superior because most US cartoons are just funny and rarely serious, but they ignore that behind the dull try-hard filler that takes 10 episodes to finish a chapter, is also hot girls that never get nude. People are all like Ghibli=Disney, but all it is is just regular anime adding more frames. Oh, you play Call of Duty? OK edgelord. Now you're paying money for skins on a server that can end at any time.
But buying toys is any better? You're still fooling yourself. You build large scale Lego sculptures of world wonders instead? You're still a grown man wasting time with something that contributes to nothing. When you buy things that were made for kids, you can't justify it because you're a grown man buying things that were made for kids.
But in the end, you bought it because you really wanted it. It doesn't enhance you as a person, nor does it prove against whatever hardship/challenge you're facing. If you bought it because it gives you internet/street cred, then you have no idea why you bought it after all. This is why I don't respect the terms/labels like "AFOL" "Not a toy" or "Adult Collectible", because it always comes off as defensive, other than it being a warning for how unsafe it might be if handled poorly.
