I think it's pretty true for most people.
Start out an idealist liberal, high on the virtuosity of promoting perfect equality, free things, and total world peace.
Growing up is realizing those ideals aren't realistic due to human nature (and minorities), and that improving society needs to come from a more grounded approach based on hard facts instead of feelings.
