Whelp, you are dealing with politics and social clout obsessed activist type people who have made their every single move in their lives some kind of activist "Statement." So they do not really think about personal preference when picking something like a food, or a movie. They watch a movie BECAUSE a woman or a poc made it. And they are so mired in that mindset that they cannot grasp anyone else in the world not doing the exact same thing for the exact same reasons. Partially because their entire social circle acts the same, so likely all the general public does too. And they have to assume the only reason a woman directed movie fails is because their perceived enemies and evil racist/misogynist people intentionally Refused to watch it for the same activist reasons.
Now the implication is that they fail only because there is some evil group of angry white people that talk shit about it, give it bad press, and in every way work in the shadows to ensure it fails.
