5090 is 2x as fast as a 9070xt etc in games but cost 3x more

but, say you are buying the same performance tier and price, expect a 30% gen to gen gain in this tier (if you even get that), it will take you 3 generations or 6 years for you to get up to a 5090 level
if you think about it, buying a 5090 now is like time travel, 6 years of your life for 2/3rds your money more
