Nevermind, just checked mission pack, you can only score first strike on YOUR turn as the active player, since Tarantulas only shoot on the enemy turn they cannot score first strike. They can score giant killer or slay the warlord but are unlikely to ever manage that.
So deploying Tarantulas like this WOULD give your enemy one VP, if they die denying movement that could have scored more VP then its still a positive strade but its not a complete no trainer to deploy them in front like this.
That said Tarantulas do have other uses than just blowing up Rhinos To strand tacticals turn 1 so if the mission doesn't make thst trick valuables you can still use them to protect from aircraft or deepstrikes which is canonically how these things are used anyway so thats cool.

Yeah I found it a second after posting. I was just asking in the first place because sometimes these things are harder to find than you'd think and I thought I'd try and save myself some time.
Anyway, at first I was too lazy to go back and say "nvm found it" and I thought I'd just let my post sit so people could presume I'm a retard, but you've tipped my hand by making me think I'd feel bad if it looked like I was ignoring you now that I've wasted your time briefly. I hope you're happy. I'm not in particular. Not that sad either, just not really very happy with the way the situation's ended up unfolding, particularly with how I now feel in regards to wasting people's time with an unnecessary sauce request
