There's a cycle where other games flourish after GW screws the pooch. And then GW eventually makes a better edition and everyone goes running back. I saw this during 7th a decade ago. Lots of people here were playing Dropzone Commander, Malifaux, and Bolt Action. And then the major shakeup of 8E brought a lot of people back to 40K.
>There is more interest in alt games but not enough actual players
People need to get over the idea of pickup games and giant leagues/tournaments and embrace the idea of getting 4-5 bros together and doing a campaign and collaborating on stuff like terrain-building. You really want to play with some autistic smelly competitive guy who sits around waiting for a random opponent?

Kinda amazing actually. I played a Battletech campaign in the 00's where my friends refused to play on any map that wasn't just scattered trees and hills. And now that sort of autism is the default.
