I'm 5 hours in but mostly did the story. When should I stop doing the main quest and start doing side quests/levelinf jobs?

Should I just finish the story in one go and then do the rest of the content?

How were these guys supposed to work again? I ended up with multiple copies of them while play GX Duel Academy.
