I have been convinced by nuTrek and shit like this that there are people who are fanatically devoted to fucking brands. There's not anything in particular in the property itself they like, they literally just like the brand name. Slap the "Star Wars" or "Star Trek" or "Lord of the Rings" or whatever else brand on a steaming pile of shit, and these people will lap it the fuck up and insist that they're the real fans for having done so. Microsoft could just rename their latest Cawadooty shovelware "Lord of the Rings: Special Ops" and there's a small contingency of people who will immediately buy it and defend it to the last purely because it had the brand slapped on it.
