The story of the old testament is pretty much God working through the jews to develop his plan of bringing the messiah that will save humanity. They were a conduit of God and that story ended when the word was made flesh in Jesus Christ, who was part of the Abrahamic blood line, and was crucified as the ultimate atonement for humanity's rebellion. At that point, God's plan spread from the Jews out to all of humanity.
You also left out the verses before and after where Jesus speaks to a Samaritan woman who is confused because Jews didn't associate with Samaritans which is where this verse comes from. Right after this, Jesus pretty much says that he's the messiah and being a Jew is no longer of any significance to God.
