I'm always baffled by people who don't see how Anakin was always teetering on the edge. As a child he was sold as a slave, grew up in the slums surrounded by criminals, competed in deathraces that he only survived because of his superhuman reflexes, and was eventually recruited into an interplanetary war where his surrogate father figure was killed, developed oneitis for the most unavailable woman in the galaxy, and was initially rejected by the jedi order after leaving his mother behind and flying across the galaxy to join them (which is probably something he never forgot).
So he turned out to be a somewhat more troubled apprentice than usual but it probably still would have turned out okay if so many other factors hadn't converged at once. HIs mother dies and he gives in to his emo rage and not only slaughters an entire encampment of Sandpeole but gets away with it because no one gives a fuck about sandpeople lol. So now he's a grizzled child soldier with fresh trauma who succumbed to his violent impulses and everyone's kind of like "it's cool we understand." Which just gets reinforced when he kills Dooku and is praised for it. And Padme is acting all slutty and letting him rawdog her so he's not in control of his rage *or* lust at this point. Then sheev starts pissing in his ear about how the jedi don't know everything at the same time the jedi start jerking him around and undermining his faith in them.
He was already incredibly conflicted and the Sheev dangled the save people from dying carrot" which was the one thing that ultimately swayed his choice because of his premonitions about Padme which Sheev either knew about or may have actually been responsible for. I'm also not 100% sure Sheev didn't contrive to have his Anakin's mother abducted. He was playing the long game after, all.
But anyway, if you're gonna tell me Anakin's heel turn came out of nowhere you werent paying attention.
