Official 2025 Format guide:
>Standard
>Pioneer
>Modern
>Legacy
Trash infected by UB and modern FIRE slop. And then cards only get banned because "pros" can't build their own decks and JotC gets mad that their UBslop isn't being played.
>Vintage
Your goblin aggro deck is just not viable without a full set of power nine. Enjoy taking out a mortgage for a deck.
>Pauper
Cheap but still infected by UB and MH1-3 slop. Though the power in UB and MH is in the rares so this is minimal. Decent format. But then again, Delver-Terror power creep decks are infecting the format so the FIRE powercreep is still alive and well here.
>Commander
Pure slop since 2012. Not real MTG.
>Premodern
Cool idea as it's the only way to avoid FIRE and pre-FIRE/post-Mirrodin power-creep. But unless you allow proxies instead of just coping with gold-bordered cards (which are also expensive), it's going to be a matter of a cool more affordable deck losing because some paypig spent 3k on a play-set mox diamonds or some other reserve list cards and shits out his combo. Or even worse, you go up against one of those paypigges who play the parallex combo deck and get an auto-win because of it. And this is of course not forgetting that cards prices have been pumped up for a lot of old cards since 2020 even those not on the reserved list. And any multi-color decks are running fetch lands which are all expensive even in their modern printings. Cards that were at most $1 back then are now $10 in the lowest seller. Either premodern rules are made to allow chinaman proxies universally and ban reserve-list cards to keep deck prices down, or, it's just not worth playing. And lets face it, the Urza Block (Nosewater's pet project before Mirrodin) and it's broken cards still infect the format so this is a big downside. It's not a big format so good luck getting any games anywhere but MTGO. Dead on arrival.
