Thing about AI is that it's progressing incredibly quickly. The main issue is going to be resources and energy required to actually keep it going. One of the facts that people can't seem to accept is that we're not on the way to a 'Sci-Fi' future with spaceships, replicators, holodecks etc. Even the smartest person on the planet can't create something that the currently available resources on Earth or even the universe can make a reality. In a similar vein there's going to be human ailments that remain incurable because the resources required to correct them simply don't exist.
We've come an incredibly long way over the past 10,000 years, but it's going to cap out eventually to the point where we start running out of resources and regress as a species.
