Cowboy Bebop wasn't the intended product that Bandai was hoping for. They gave its creator zero oversight and asked to make an anime based on fighting ships. Through lightning in a bottle events such as the musician creating music so good that the animators redrew entire scenes to compete against the quality you got something really special. It was also almost cancelled at the last minute once Bandai found out that the show wasn't focusing on ship combat and if not for Bandai's sister company Bandai Visual, the show would've never been fully completed and aired.
