Some people thought the fourth-wall breaking loading screens were cheesy, and that it pushed the idea that the final monologue with Conrad was targeted directly at the player. Insisting that the choice to keep playing instead of just stopping and turning off the game was morally their fault in how the story turned out.
I agree that that'd be an annoying sentiment, considering the game itself doesn't give you other options. But I disagree with the critique, because Walker is clearly his own character and was making choices outside of the player's control from the very start.
