Wee-woo wee-woo, no dev alert
I'm bored and I wanna try and make a few sprites before I go to bed. I'm gonna list just a few of many, many concepts that have struck me like lightning in the last year, and whichever one jumps at you the most is what I'll make sprites for tomorrow. Pic related, did these in roughly forty-five minutes for a sidescrolling shooter concept I called "Midas". Ready? Here we go.
A) Gravitas
A space shooter where a player controls the Earth itself by spinning fast enough to avoid getting sucked into a black hole’s ever increasing gravitational pull while also changing up the rate of rotation to avoid collision with asteroids or other planets getting sucked in. The player can aim a satellite that circles the planet to shoot at asteroids, alien ships, and other planets to try and break them up.
B) Hexes and Hues
A top-down shmup where you play as an old witch that fights indirectly, casting spells to change enemies’ colors so that rival color factions kill them in battle.
C) Buck ‘n’ Bronco
An automatic side-scrolling point and click shooter set in the Old West where you control both a gunfighter and his horse simultaneously. Jump with Buck, Bronco, or both to avoid obstacles and engage in sequences where the two separate and then rejoin.
D) Ma’at
A daredevil tightrope walker only succeeds in their walks with an ostrich feather from the Egyptian goddess or order, Ma’at. A side-scrolling arcade action game where players will have to adjust the character’s balance at all times judging a meter and braving various obstacles and enemies. At the end of each stage, the player’s time and enemies defeated are balanced on a scale. The more evenly balanced the two are, the better the score multiplier bonus. If the scales are heavily unbalanced, the player will have points subtracted from their total score.

More sprites just for fun, so far this has taken roughly forty-five minutes.
These would be for a side-scrolling shoot em up called "Midas". The idea was that your ship can graze enemy shots or maybe even enemies themselves to turn them into gold, which could then be thrown into other enemies for combos where they all become gold, and the player gathers the gold pieces to add to their score. The Midas ship could shoot, of course, at four different levels of power, without the need for collecting power-ups, but there would be a catch - your score is your ammo, and the more powerful your shots, the more points it costs. The player would always have access to a basic shot, but it would be weak and have half a screen-length of range. Midas would also be able to grab select enemies and objects indicated with a certain palette or maybe it can flash, hold them, and then throw them back or drop them onto other enemies or against walls to destroy them.
Ideally, there would be four ships with four uniquely designed hands for difficulty. Easy mode is Talos (bronze), normal is Artemis (silver), hard is Midas (gold), and then maybe super hard could be something like Pluton (platinum). Then there's the idea of the hand maybe being able to grind against the bottom of the stage to gather materials to throw, like snow for a snowball, or a static charge to zap enemies for a limited time. Or hell, what if the hand could snatch at and tear off parts of a mid-boss or boss' armor to make it vulnerable to shots? Who the fuck knows, it's stuff like this that I can't let go and have to make art for or else it just eats me up inside.
