Have they explained what the fuck the Nine are yet or what they actually want? Or is it still retarded esoteric nonsense?

Why is "The Void" such an overused enemy force in fantasy, and even some science fiction? It's become a trope at this point that the ultimate evil of any given IP will inevitably be a non-descript The Void.
Not saying this is a bad thing, I just think it's interest that every story seems to lead to this.
