I couldn't care less about "hardcore BotW" gameplay. I keep seeing those cringe montages where they're edited out the menu-pausing and I literally get nothing out of it, and I hate experimenting beyond the bare minimum you have to do to get from A to B in the games.
To me that isn't fun. A designed challenge that forces you to master its mechanics is fun, and rewarding. But a game constantly telling you like a little baby that "anything you do is totally valid" gets fucking boring after a while and you stop looking at the puzzle in front of you to place 2 boxes next to a wall and jump over the entire setup. That isn't "satisfying", that's just an oversight and it's lame.
If I wanted "hardcore gameplay", I have Souls games or an online shooter. Zelda is about the "images" of each environment you go to, and older Zeldas felt like each screen had its own little mini-narrative to it, and it was more about memorization, jotting down mental notes, and coming back later until you'd found the right combination of where to go, which dungeon to clear and which item to progress with. That was way more satisfying and ties up into a sense of "whole" than just digging out the entire field with a shovel and moving on when you're done.

If you think of 3DS as the height of handheld gaming it means you're a zoomer. The DS had a better run and there was nothing interesting on 3DS in the end.
