Why don't modern gyms take inspiration from the ancient Greeks?
I'm talking about a place where:
> you train strength like a hoplite (weights, calisthenics, wrestling)
> you practice martial arts like pankration
> you discuss philosophy, science, and politics between sessions (like they did in the palestra)
Back then, gyms were centers for physical *and* intellectual development. Nowadays it's just:
> bro splits
> creatine talk and TikTok clips
> zero intellectual depth
I want a place where I can deadlift, choke someone out on the mat, and then debate Heraclitus while cooling down.
Was combining mind and body really a thing we just… forgot?
