Anon I absolutely fucking love action games. I make it a point to complete the hardest difficulty on every halfway decent action game I get my hands on and challenge runs on the really great ones.
Automata sucks.
Platinum's budget action titles like Korra and Transformers Devastation are worlds better in terms of gameplay and it's not even close.
I may go so far as to say I enjoyed my time with fucking Mutants In Manhattan more than my time with Nier.

It's actually a lot LESS random at level die. It's far more predictable to the point that speedruns of NG KMS on normal can legitimately be more difficult because enemy behaviors will vary more.

What's giving you trouble? I can reliably do NG Hard KMS in about 4 hours (personal best a little under 3:30).
