Leftists can't write Sonic because they fundamentally reject what Sonic is. Sonic believes in an objective morality, the kind that doesn't shift with consensus, culture, or circumstance. There's right, there’s wrong, and you do what you know is right even if it costs you everything. That kind of clarity is foreign to the modern progressive writer, who treats morality as a social construct, identity as a performance, and personal conviction as a red flag. Sonic isn't on a journey to find himself. He already knows who he is. He doesn't second-guess his purpose, doesn't apologize for his choices, and doesn't need to be humbled by girlbosses, collectives, or lectures about power structures. His strength comes from within. His compass always points him forward, alone if necessary. He doesn't compromise, and he doesn't slow down so others can catch up. He's not driven by guilt, not searching for external validation, and not asking for permission. And that's why progressive writers keep fumbling him. Because Sonic represents a kind of spiritual certainty, moral clarity, and individual power that their worldview cannot tolerate, let alone understand. And that may be why, when the IDW staff failed at every turn to write Sonic compellingly as himself, too reactive, too complacent, too agreeable, too soft, they opted to replace him with their view of Silver. They softened Sonic into a preachy pacifist who's constantly moralizing, avoiding direct confrontation, and treating compassion as a substitute for courage. It's a Sonic who talks instead of acts, who compromises instead of charging forward, and feels more like a mouthpiece than a force of nature. Sonic is closer in spirit to Aragorn or Aslan than to anything coming out of leftist literature. He's a mythic figure, not a metaphor for activism or angst. That's why IDW Sonic consistently falls flat. It's mostly written by people who can't tolerate Sonic on a conceptual level.
