I was on medicaid last year, basically if you make like $1000 a month you don’t qualify, so you have to prove you’re working but also insanely poor while working.

It’s the same way with cash assistance, basically you get $700 a month (that was what I had with a wife and two kids) but as soon as you earn $100 a month that reduces the cash assistance to $600 then.
