For me, it's the Prequels theory

>In Chapter 3, Tenna, Kris, and the Knight are in cahoots to kidnap Toriel.
>Tenna takes calls from his minion Darkners who find Toriel and secure her in the ventilated gachapon ball
>In exchange for finding and securing Toriel, Tenna gets to try and help Kris relive the good old days when he watched TV with his family and friends.
>This is alluded to in Mantle minigames (particularly the last one) and Tenna mentioning it would be against the Knight's wishes to release Toriel (this is why he gets nearly killed at the end).
>Ramb figures this out at the last minute when he interrogates Kris about his motivations, realizing that it was about his mom instead of having fun.
>When the Knight arrives at the Dreemur household, they immediately try to capture Toriel, but they are interrupted by Undyne.
>Undyne is captured in Toriel's place, but this accomplishes the goal of denying Susie the shelter code from the police

Now, why would Kris and the Knight want Toriel captured? She seems to have no relevance to the prophecy or the shelter.
