Can you even call it adaptation if it has nothing to do with the original beside the title? Like I watched this movie without knowing it's name and I didn't know it's related to Finał Fantasy until many years later. I wonder what fans of the series thought about this movie when it first came out.

Square Enix has been a failing company for 20+ years. It lost a lot of its creative talent after picrel came out. While executives demanded the movie be made, they blamed it all on Sakaguchi when it flopped. A dozen other departures followed which is why Square Enix hasn’t made a good FF game since. And they’ve been desperate to fill those spots ever since, including Yoshida.
