I don't dislike Hirutaku in their routes, I actually quite like them. It's just the Karua mentions during their not-kiss scene and the hug scene make me want to strangle Takumi to death and plead to substitute his place so that I can treat Hiruko better than some incompetent manlet who's way too casual about a stoic ice queen being obsessively in love with him. It's like, someone won the lottery but he's still grieving of the pathetically small allowance his parents gave him.
Takumi works extremely well with Hiruko if we ignore his characterization in literally every other route. A stupid and admittedly cute boy (who's also a bit feminine) does realistically seem like Hiruko's type, she'd love a boytoy to torment then shower with affection.

I don't mean to undermine Darumi, but we all know that the routes were written by entirely different people, so it's more of a headcanon territory to link her petplay kink with her trauma. That's just one writer's interpretation. I mean, she even has a barking sprite and it's one consistent trait that Kodaka wrote for her from the very start.
