In Wiemar Germany many of the Red Shirts eventually joined the Brown Shirts (after their organization was destroyed). In that instance I think it was more about being a part of something (anything) that gave young men hope. Nationalism/Fascism is usually much more "hopeful" than Commie Antifa, which is much more "spiteful".
