No, I'd say that's just a persecution/victim complex if you think being gay means you'll suffer forever in stories as default unless you luck out. Yes the law and society want you to stop existing but that's got nothing to do with making everything so depressing like you're a teenage girl writing an angsty fanfic. It is what it is in the end, and people managed to have relationships thousands of years ago when you would get literally hanged for it, let alone now. That story was realistic but it had nothing to do with them being boys, there's hundreds of stories like that about childhood crushes on a girl you never see again. The suffering isn't related to gayness in particular.

Many people "lived with their friends" back in the day, sometimes until they died. People who wanted to have a relationship managed to find a way to have it. Nobody is hunting for gays, most people are too busy with their own lives.
