Yep. The Fassbender parts and Prometheus parts were what was interesting. I don't know what Ridley was thinking setting it in this boring village. Even if it were supposed to be just a world they seeded, it's not that interesting and doesn't carry a whole movie. But David had to be stuck somewhere for years and go insane, I guess.

This could have been an interesting premise if expanded upon. They've been around for millions of years. Their galaxy spanning civilization has eventually degenerated and most of it is in ruins. They've split into factions with differing ideas on how to proceed. Some want to biomodify themselves like Prometheus. And others want to live simple lives like the ones in Covenant. But David is a malfunctioning psycho that wants to kill them all regardless and kill all humans.
