Besides Ridley literally nuking the Prometheus sequel crushing the pizza egregiously and it had some cool visuals. Not really an alien movie despite the alien which shows up in the last five minutes.

If you ignore the tacked on alien stuff, then it's a decent enough flick. It's really pretty, the locations are great, the basic premise of an Earth android coming to an alien world, genociding them, then starting to experiment to create monstrous life is kino. And on top of that he's damaged from before and heavily malfunctioning but believes he's perfect and godlike. There's a movie in there to enjoy, just cut out a bunch of unnecessary stuff. The actual alien and the whole ending battle wasn't needed.

1:it was actaully an invitation
2:Yh no excuse taking of your helmet on an alien planet must be some of the dumbest shit ever even if the air is breathable, who knows what type of alien microorganism exist.
3&4:This guy (Fifield) gets a lot of hate but he was just a geologist as he said and you can see in the movie that those things he used to develop the map for the area of the cave it was for the people on the ship, they hade the overall view given to them by fifields mapped the area out for the people in the ship so then they report to those that where in the cave... so that part was not his fault he got lost cus those two decided to leave their overwatching posts and bang.
5:This guy is the real dumbest shit but yh he is a biologist finds an alien creature and gets excited. Still the dumbest one, take of helm try to interact with a fucking alien mega worm.... its so stupid.
6:He opened the door to kill everyone walking out had suits on even him when they burned fifield.

Worth noting that the helmet thing didn’t actually turn out to be a problem at all.
Nobody ever queries why the characters in Aliens go in without masks; for all they know a gas leak or some other airborne danger could have killed everybody

These are not Alien films. Don't even try to start comparing them like that. Prometheus is its own thing and made it's own stupid ass choices. Regardless, the colony on LV-426 has been there for decades and has breathable air. There are no bodies. They have sensing equipment. There's zero reason to suspect gas or any other sort of chemical. They keep their helmets on the whole time in the first movie. And before you whine about sticking your face in front of an egg, that's hindsight bias. There's nothing ever that can birth, immediately attack a grown opponent, and melt through their armored suit and thick glass to parasite them. So no reason for him to be scared of an egg at all.

Yes it did it was still stupid, if you go to an alien planet hoping to find life, who knows what kind of pathogens, microrganism. or just small creatures that have evolved on this foreign planet, no scientsit would ever, ever take that risk just because the air is "breathable".
NOTE: They travel to this place hoping to find something because they were INVITED. Its not just a random rock planet in space that they can breath on and suddenly they decide to remove the helmets, that would be understandable. Because in that scenario they would have had no idea life existet. Nope our characters went to this planet because they presumed life was there.

>It's implied this is just another seeded planet like earth
I considered it, but I don't believe so. I think the Engineers themselves broke into factions based on their beliefs. These engineers liked creating normal life and were peaceful. The suited Engineers liked Xeno life and were aggressive and quick to anger. It's almost a tragedy that the crew met the suited Engineer first then David went on to kill the peaceful Engineers in revenge.

Ridley really, REALLY did not want to add back in alien stuff. He made it as dumb and fast-forwarded as possible. The facehuggers impregnate people in seconds and without even having to knock them unconscious. This guy got one on him and it was cut off in seconds, then he bursts later on the ship. The xenomorphs then grow to adult size in another few seconds. Ridley was just like "yeah yeah get on with it, I'm not doing the wait-around thing anymore"

The helmet thing plays into another problem of Prometheus that's annoying: they believe they are flying to Heaven to meet actual God and Angels. Since they are doing that, then God would have breathable, microbe-free air, of course. Then finding out it's just boring ancient aliens that are also mortal makes them suicidally depressed. It's really dumb because at no point did anyone promise them they'd meet God on that planet and there was no reason to get expectations up that crazy high.

Yep. The Fassbender parts and Prometheus parts were what was interesting. I don't know what Ridley was thinking setting it in this boring village. Even if it were supposed to be just a world they seeded, it's not that interesting and doesn't carry a whole movie. But David had to be stuck somewhere for years and go insane, I guess.

People meme on the first neomorph scene way too hard. It's perfectly reasonable for people to panic seeing their friend all fucked up and an alien burst out of him. And reasonable to uncontrollably slip on a bloody floor. The primary bad parts there are attributable to Ridley's design of the alien baby and his overall tiredness of its lifecycle. Everything is sped up super fast now. The original chestburster had to run and hide since it was vulnerable. This one can immediately attack and kill a grown woman, then break through protective glass on a door while it's still small enough to get out but growing fast.

Point is, they were trying to make parts of it realistic and plausible and they should get credit for those. There's no way to make any of these movies satisfy viewers these days since everyone just says "I know what's happening next so I wouldn't have done it that way! Therefore all these characters are retarded idiots!"

Duh. You're never going to get the same experience at the end of the franchise as at the beginning. When it has been institutionalized and become the IP of some megacorporation managed by corporate bureaucrats rather than the original team, you're getting slop after slop. Because they are explicitly thinking along the lines of "how to farm this existing IP for money" rather than "how to make a good movie".

Okay, it's better than I remember it being. I feel like all the supporting cast was passable, no one felt grating like some of support in Prometheus. The pale xenos looked pretty terrifying except when they opened their mouths. I hated the spore concept, though, it seems too advanced given that it's leading up to the xenomorph. The climax on the Covenant was lame. I heard Fox pushed for standard Alien shit, so I wonder if Scott just went through the motions and redid the same stock ending from, at that point, 3 of the 5 Alien films. Still love the open ending with David. He carries the movies, and I was hopeful the next Alien movie would have him, but shit's canned. Maybe they'll find a way to tie this Romulus series back to him since they weren't afraid of using the Engineer concept.

yeah it was definitely a seeded planet. just one where the ubermensch were satisfied with the result and revealed themselves to the humanoids

it makes way too sense in the context shown in the scenes
>contrast of the biomechanica spaceport and ancient rome tier stone hut city
>humanoids look nothing like the ubermensch
>entire city ran to greet the arriving spacecraft like its a major event
>humongous circular area that clearly houses an underground hangar like the one seen in prometheus. Almost like the city was built around an existing ubermensch biomechanica base

>inb4 but david claimed
david is full of shit, a liar and manipulator. shown consistently through the movies. There is no reason why he should have helped shaw bring an unmarked ship into the ubermensch stronghold with god knows what defenses when he could have very easily read the starmap and taken course for another seeded world. With his real intention being running experiments on the ubermensch pet project

He clearly had a plan at least to some degree, spoke publicly on multiple occasions about what was coming next, then Fox wanted changes. Make Prometheus less of a direct Alien prequel then work towards Alien, rush to Alien stuff and sideline things from Prometheus, etc. He had to fight to include any of the planetary arrival flashback in Covenant (we didn’t get it all) because they wanted it all pulled

I don't believe he did. It's far too jumbled and obviously making things up on the fly. They can't decide why the engineers hated humans, if it should be Jesus or not, if Jesus should be an engineer or human, what kind of planet Shaw and David would fly to (low tech roman or super advanced world with a ring around it), etc. Instead all Ridley had was: ancient engineers created humans and decided to hate them, humans created androids which what human, creators try to kill creations whils creations try to kill creators, throw in some random goo transforms, zombies and squid monsters so the audience can say oooh mysterious! Then they figured to make up shit on the spot for each sequel and not answer anything from any previous movie. Ridley loves his androids so he just moved it all towards evil android while ignoring the engineers the audience came to see.

Fox specifically had him sideline the engineers. The arrival sequence that exists in a rather cut down form was something he had to fight to include at all because they overreacted to the more negative comments online and decided they wanted all the Prometheus related stuff out of the way

It's inherently flawed because it's not a hard sequel to Prometheus which is what everyone who isn't a drooling retard wanted. Nobody wanted another Xeno shitfest with dumb characters and cringe dialogue. It could have been interesting if they didn't kill off Shaw, but they did and what we got was this slop.

The Neomorphs are a cool concept and the Walter/David dynamic is interesting, but it's not good enough. Even Romulus is better.

The guy is seen playing piano, and talking about operatic music, and poems all the time. He's supposed to be learned, intelligent and highbrow. It's the Roy architype from Blade Runner and Ridley's favorite. David was severely damaged in Prometheus. He believes he's perfect, immortal, infallible, and a great creator. I have no problem with poetry in films, in fact I welcome it. I just think this instance was incredibly poorly done, and it's more jarring because the film skillfully uses the Ozymandias verse elsewhere to good effect.

His voice glitches constantly following the damage received in Prometheus which is an obvious malfunction and his delusionally grandiose behaviour in general is shown to have not been what was intended from the day he was activated. Weyland is visibly irritated by it immediately, we’re later told that his idiosyncrasies disturbed people resulting in changes to how the robots were produced. From day one he wasn’t functioning as originally intended, then later was damaged and unable to receive proper maintenance for a decade. It’s clearly explained in the film

>Nobody ever queries why the characters in Aliens go in without masks

By reciting Ozymandias, David is implying that this once great galaxy spanning empire of engineers has fallen and turned to dust. And he's helping kill it off for good. I kinda like the idea on its own. Ridley fucked it all up by making it tied to alien so it can't be discussed on its own merits though.
