Imagine being a young starry eyed PLA soldier fresh out of bootcamp. You and your friends who enlisted with you are getting hyped up to go retake Taiwan only to get completely BTFO and humiliated. Fast forward a couple years later and your extremely nationalistic country is going to total war with the rest of Asia, nukes and chemical weapons are being tossed around left and right, civilians are being mercilessly slaughtered, and enemy POWs are executed without hesitation. I feel like after fighting in the fourth theater and seeing my eighth buddy from my home village get turned into a pink mist by a drone swarm I'd also become disillusioned with the war and just want to return to my comfy farming village.
