Indeed, the one that uses it the least is the Game Boy version, but it still has them... I at least like how you can get a Game Over if you use up all your ammo before killing all of the aliens, you get a unique Game Over screen saying that you've ran out and it means you can't stop the aliens anymore, it feels bleak and hopeless, and it caught me by surprise, so at least it forces you to use your ammo only when needed, instead of shooting like crazy, or else you'll be hopeless to defeat them... it adds to its horror nicely.

Thanks for the heads up, anon. I was thinking of skipping the GBC version altogether and going right into the GBA, but knowing this I'll give the GBC a try first. I love GBC, so having a good Donald Duck video game for it sounds awesome.
