We oppose Miquella because Miquella is evil for wanting to use grace to compel and control people and no different than the Fingers
Miquella's Order of Light is meant to control people
The game states blatantly that Gods (those able to control people) are bad and the Tarnished should be a Lord for men, that offers guidance but doesn't mind control them on the basis of pure lack of faith in humanity.
This is even further stated with the pseudo-grace used by Messmer's army to deperately keep the soldiers willing to kill.
Is the same kind of power a good thing to keep around? What forbids Miquella to abuse that non-aggression Roundtable Hold style of grace control that he pulled on Ansbach to control people?

>Miyazaki's obsession with moral ambiguity really worked against him in the DLC,
It didn't
>he failed to provide any compelling motivation to oppose Miquella
This is completely wrong.
The reason you don't see why Miquella is evil is that you don't understand Elden Ring.
Miquella's Ring of Light is Grace capable of completely possessing the minds of people, with stronger effects than the dwindling and weak Guidance of Grace.

The "pacifist" non-aggression that Miquellapedos think makes their crush so good, is the same used in the Roundtable Hold by the Two Fingers, that also doesn't work on their graceless henchmen.
The Two Fingers heavily drug their acolytes with Finger Mimics to provide hallucinations and turn them into lampreys with the promise of ascension.

If you think an absolutist Order that will aggressively expand and conquer to subjugate all into slaves that can be compelled to do anything even against their interest is a utopia then you are fucked in the head
