all they had to do was make the DD a faction based area to fight over. Imagine getting to pick a faction each DD wipe and going out protecting NPC harvesters and getting a cut once they return to your factions base thats protected by NPC soldiers and turrets. If they did something like that then wouldnt have had to deal with the thousands of players complaining about being ganked.
We could have had PvE raids in DD too, imagine storming fremen sietches or sardukar fobs for loot and having to worry about the enemy faction coming in and fucking you over or if one faction got too strong a NPC smuggler faction would help out of the losing side for a cut of the spice farmed until things balanced out
instead we got a 3rd person FFA extraction shooter
