>couldn't open the doors because the people close to the doors were fighting, and in the end every one on board burned to death
Which flight was this? The closest incident I can think of is Saudia Flight 163; it's thought that the pilot and flight crew were largely incapacitated from smoke inhalation before the plane even landed. The fire had probably melted the controls to shut down/depressurize the plane, meaning the conscious crew couldn't open the doors internally. When ground personell finally did, the plane interior shortly flashed over in the fire. It had nothing to do with the passengers

>they are cheap and easy to operate
No they're not lmao. There's a high risk of serious injury, and jumping out of the exits of most airliners in-flight will probs lead to impact with a control surface, engine or turbulent airflow that can kill you
In WW2 the OSS actually stopped doing jump training and just sent infiltration agents in blind, cause too many people were getting injured/killed during training
>you have a better chance at survival by jumping out of a plane with a parachute
It's very rare for a plane crash scenario to occur at enough altitude for parachuting, where the pilots can't just attempt an emergency landing. And in the rare cases it does (i.e. the pilots can't feasibly attempt an emergency landing), the loss of control would make parachuting out incredibly dangerous
Also, having enough parachutes on the plane for all the passengers and crew would weigh a fuckton, which would significantly lower fuel capacity and maneuverability, making a crash scenario more likely

>there is absolutely no reason for it not to be the same with commercial aircraft
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) mandates that all aircraft flying over water be equipped with enough life jackets for each passenger and crew member
