Literally contrary to what Riot employees have said both Season 1 and Season 2. /v/ likes taking one specific quote, taking it out of context (where they say season 2 was a financial success) and use it as a basis. Yes the LoL playerbase isn't growing, but it still brought enough traffic for people to whale on the literal gacha they implemented that season and heighten player activity.
