You don't need to play in order so just start with the one that grabs you attention, but if you want to then I recently went through them all and used these releases

>1 pixel remaster
It's the only non-original version which keeps the non-MP magic system, but if you don't care about that any version is fine
>2 pixel remaster
It's a pretty meh game with some questionable decisions, and this version has the most QoL, might be worth playing if you want to check it out and want to avoid getting filtered
PSP version also seemed good, with most of the QoL(It also has a postgame that is apparently pretty good, sadly I can't tell you)
>3 pixel remaster
It's the best version since they removed the "Job Fatigue" system so you can freely change jobs and experiment, DS version is super different and ruins a lot of the charm of the 2D art, battles are straight up fucked from technical limitations(actually played this one for a good 7 hours and I hated it, but I loved the PR version)
>4 gba
DS really ramps up the difficulty and uses 3D models instead of the iconic portraits with amano art which completely changes the feel of many characters, has 3D cutscenes
PSP and GBA are mostly the same but gba's artstyle feels more "natural", your choice
>5 gba(my favorite out of the first 6)
original version is also fine
gba has a worse translation but has some okay postgame(pretty skippable though)
PR fixes bugs but looks worse imo, I'm sure it's fine enough though
>6 gba
both snes and gba are fine, I don't remember the differences between the translation and the soundtrack(both things can be patched)

After that it's easy to tell which version to play

What are some other games where the main fun is messing around with job/subjob combos?
Other than the obvious FF5/FFT.
